WHY IS CAROL RUNNING FOR RE-ELECTION?

Carol Zanon is running for a 5th term as a West Kelowna City Councillor. Read her "from the heart" responses to questions as to why she was seeking another term.

Why am I Running for Re-election?
I am running for re-election because I want to use my skills and take part in the next phase of growth here in West Kelowna. My number one priority remains with West Kelowna, making it a better place for all of us and improving the quality of life in our future.

I am guided by three principles: Experience, Expertise and Enthusiasm.

  • Experience. I get things done. My range of experience in West Kelowna is long and broad. I have been a volunteer, worker and executive member of several community organizations. I was the chair of the Regional District Westside Advisory Planning Commission (APC), pre-incorporation. I was the chair of the Westbank Irrigation District when we built the $18.4 million Powers Creek Water Treatment Plant, a project that was on time and on budget. I was a member of the Westside Governance Committee that preceded the incorporation of the District of West Kelowna. I have been a councillor here for eleven years. As well, I was the chair of the Okanagan Regional Library Board of Trustees, responsible for library governance in 25 member communities stretching from Osoyoos to Revelstoke.

  • Expertise. I understand process. I listen and hear what community members have to say through meetings, letters, phone calls and social media. My background as a research biologist is invaluable in assessing technical reports. My skills developed as a lawyer help me to analyze and look at matters differently. I do read the fine print, scrutinize financials carefully, and have a sense of both fiscal responsibility and social justice.

  • Enthusiasm. I have lots of it. It is the spark that lights up my vision of the future identity of our community. I keep in touch with local associations. I am a regular on the monthly business visits by Council and the Board of Trade. There are plans for Westbank Centre, the future of the Industrial Park, and the popular Wine Trail. We improved Westlake Road and the Gellatly Bay Wharf, and paved roads and sidewalks. And there is so much more to do. Many decisions lay ahead for the future council. I will continue to be in touch with the folks who live here, and be guided by them. I am proud of the quality of life West Kelowna offers.

"I want to be part of our future as a voice of common sense and to carry on with what I started when I was first elected eleven years ago. I intend to listen to our citizens, implement the master plans and develop our unique identity here in West Kelowna. I will continue to work on our future while keeping our rural roots. Ultimately, the people of West Kelowna will decide who they want to act on their behalf and make those important decisions for our community and its future. A vote for me, Carol Zanon, as councillor for the next four years is a vote for our future. "
